California Yachts For Charter

The California coastline is long and offers a variety of locations for a yacht charter. This lengthy state is too big to cover in a one or two week charter – so it is best to focus on a smaller area. Southern California is probably the most popular with a large number of yachts, especially power, basing in this fabulous harbor. Fishing in these cooler waters is very popular and the motor yacht crews know all the best spots and gear to use. Travel along the coast – it amazing how a busy city can seem to drop away as you distance yourself from the beach, taking all your cares away. Most San Diego based yachts reposition all the way south to Cabo or La Paz Mexico on the Baja peninsula for the winter season and offer fishing or whale watching as well.

Marina del Rey or Newport Beach, both part of the greater Los Angeles area offer yachts for charter, both sail and power are available. Day sailing while using the yacht as your home base is fun for visitors from out of town, or take off and cruise to the offshore Catalina Islands and hike the hills – no cars here! Another popular itinerary is to continue north to Santa Barbara, an historic town with a Mediterranean feel.

San Francisco Bay is huge with many fingers extended into the outlying towns. However the very strong winds usually found in the area make this a racer’s dream, but not for the faint of heart. Day sails in good weather and it is possible to cruise north into the wine country as there are a few harbors close to vineyards, but it is most common that charter yachts transit this area from time to time, but do not base here.
