USVI & Bvi Yachts For Charter

The volcanic islands that make up the Virgin Islands are one of the most popular destinations for yacht charters worldwide, as they offer superb snorkelling and diving, great sailing, and a variety of islands to explore. In contrast to the bustling U.S. Virgin Islands, are the low-key British Virgin Islands (BVI or BVI's).

Breathe deep as the rich island aromas drift to you on the tradewinds, stirring images of a time centuries past when pirates battled for the spoils of a conquered galleon, now sip lightly at the evening's libation of rum and tropical juice to find yourself anchored out in one of the many turquoise bays of the Virgin Islands. Perhaps tomorrow's dive will reveal some vestige of the past among the vibrant coral reefs that surround these Caribbean jewels. Large Islands have their attractions - but if you're the sort of sailor who regards land as the frame rather than the picture, you'll certainly be drawn to the necklace of small, disputed islands encircling the north and eastern fringe of the Virgin Islands.

These are true cruising waters - fine sailing conditions, safe anchorages, light breezes and sparkling bays inaccessible from landward. And at night, the sophisticated cuisine of a half-dozen great empires fighting for your attention.

Sample Itinerary – 10 Days in the Virgin Islands

Pick up on St. Thomas

Day 1: Meet your crew at American Yacht Harbor where you’ll embark on the adventure of a lifetime. You’ll be taken aboard your yacht, shown around and settled in with a Caribbean cocktail. Take some time to get acquainted with the crew and go over your expectations for the trip. Then sail across Pilsbury Sound to the second largest of the US Virgins – St. John. Take your pick of the gorgeous beaches ringing the north shore – all of which are part of the island’s National Park System and remain undeveloped and pristine. Try Trunk Bay or Cinnamon Bay for the snorkeling then move over to Francis Bay for the
night.

Day 2: Sail further up the coast to Leinster Bay and take a step back in time at the Annaberg Plantation where you can tour the ruins of the old sugar mill. Then take a hike up the Reef Bay Trail to check out the petroglyphs or spend the rest of the day limin’ Caribbean style – on the beach with a cocktail.

Day 3: Say goodbye to the good ol’ US of A and sail to the West End of Tortola where
you’ll clear British customs. This is the home of the world famous Pusser’s Rum so be sure to try a sample as you check out the beautiful marina surrounded by prettily painted wooden houses. With a bit of Pusser’s in you, you’re ready to live the pirate lifestyle so head over to Norman Island – the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. Anchor up at Cayes Caves and spend the afternoon searching for Blackbeard’s treasure. Then sail around the corner to the Blight where you can have a quiet dinner on board, or continue the skullduggery on The William Thornton (Willy T’s) – an old Baltic Trader that’s been converted into a floating bar and restaurant.

Day 4: Sail northward past Peter Island to Salt Island where you’ll find the famous wreck
of the Rhone – a 310’ Royal Mail Ship sunk during a hurricane in 1867. This is a must-see stop for avid divers and snorkelers. If your yacht does not offer diving services, a rendezvous dive can be arranged.

Day 5: After an early breakfast, sail up to Virgin Gourda. Stop off at the Baths, a true
wonder of nature where boulders appear to have been thrown haphazardly around by some ancient Colossus forming caves, walkways and crystal clear pools perfect for snorkeling. Then get out before the crowds arrive and sail to North Sound, the perfect place to perfect high-speed watersports such as Windsurfing or wakeboarding or just lounging on the beach. Pass the evening sipping Pina Coladas at the Bitter End resort.

Day 6: Settle in for a leisurely sail up to Anegada, a beautiful coral island far from the
Rigors of modern society. Enjoy a lazy day swimming, snorkeling, or suntanning.

Day 7: Head back towards Tortola passing the private island of British tycoon Richard
Branson – Necker Island. Spend the day moored at Lee Bay on Great Camanoe Island. Hang out on the beach or spend some time exploring the local flora And fauna by hiking across the isthmus to Camp Bay. Spend the night here, or, if you’re craving some civilization, sail on to Road Town, Tortola for dinner ashore. Check out the Spectacular views at Sky World located atop the island’s highest peak. Then head down to the Last Resort where you’ll be entertained by the joke-telling, piano-playing owner, Tony Snell.

Day 8: No trip to the Virgin Islands is complete without a stop at Jost Van Dyke. Sail
to White Bay and swim ashore to the Soggy Dollar Bar to trade in your wet duckets for a Painkiller or two. Then continue around to Great Harbour, home of the legendary Foxy’s. Most days Foxy himself is on hand playing Calypso songs detailing life on the Islands. If you’ve got the energy, continue on to Little Harbour where you’ll find the nightlife in full swing at Sidney’s and Harris’s Place.

Day 9: Have a leisurely breakfast and shake away the cobwebs from the night before
then sail back to Cruz Bay to clear U.S. customs. Spend some time in the quaint, artsy community of Cruz Bay or try your hand at putt-putt golf at nearby Pastory Gardens. Sail around to Christmas Cove off Great St. James where you’ll spend a quiet last night on board.

Day 10: Snorkel the waters of Christmas Cove, have lunch and then it’s time for the
inevitable – packing up and heading back to Red Hook and real life. Other United States or British Virgin Island Yacht Charter Locations of the world:
